Electric Road Systems

The research sector Electromechanical Engineering of the Institute for Factory Automation and Production Systematics (FAPS) at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) was founded in 2011 as the Bavarian Technology Center for Electric Drives. The so-called E|Drive Center serves as a platform for research and industry partners, students and the public to develop and disseminate topics relating to the manufacturing of electrical machines.

Today, the research sector Electromechanical Engineering covers the entire field of production of electrical machines, from process development and optimization through to disassembly and recycling. A recent article in the “Automotive Technology in Bavaria provides an overview of the various research activities.

The main research topics can be divided into magnetic materials and electric conductors:

The research sector perfectly fits into the cluster initiatives for mechatronics and automation, automotive and environmental technology, and effectively supports the automotive industry in the increased use of electric drive technology. Since May 2010, a large number of research and industrial projects have already been completed or launched. Numerous technical seminars, lectures and presentations have been held and several invention disclosures have been submitted. With the “International Electric Drives Production Conference (E|DPC)“, the research sector also organizes an internationally unique scientific conference in the field of electric drives production.
