29.06.2023: Guest lecture Innovation Technology II – purpose-driven modeling of digital shadows in manufacturing

As part of the lecture series “Innovation Technology II” of the Chair of Information Systems – Innovation & Value Creation (Wi1), FAU WiSo students are introduced to, among other things, the analysis, explanation and design of IT systems to support innovation, cooperation and management systems. In this context, students also design a concept for an innovation technology and examine its suitability for increasing innovation capability.

In the spirit of cross-faculty education at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) as a full university, Tobias Reichenstein from the Institute for Factory Automation and Production Systems (FAPS) gave a guest lecture entitled “Purpose-oriented design of digital shadows in production” as part of this lecture series.

In addition to the fundamentals, trends and (value creation) potential of Industry 4.0, students were also introduced to the key role of data in the context of I4.0 and to Retrofit as a sustainable tool for data acquisition in the brownfield. The focus of the guest lecture was the presentation of the digital shadow in production and the resulting value creation potentials in order to illustrate the paradigm shift from Big Data to relevant Data. In addition, students were given exclusive insights into the latest research results from the Wi1 and FAPS collaboration in this area. Using a demonstrator from the ConSensE research project, these theoretical foundations were illustrated and linked to appropriate examples. The guest lecture was concluded by an active discussion among the students on how the presented contents of the guest lecture can be considered and applied in the context of their “Innovation Technology II” project work.
