05.11.2020: New placement machine with 3D MID extension: Yamaha iPulse S20

The Electronics Production of the Institute FAPS has been extended by the three-dimensional compatible placement machine iPulse S20 of the manufacturer Yamaha. Compared to the standard model, the system has a 3-axis robot arm that enables the mounting of three-dimensional circuit carriers. For this purpose, several circuit carriers can be placed on a rack. Within the system, the placement heads can pick up the circuit carriers and transfer them to the robot arm. The rack passes through the system in the same way as a normal PCB. In addition, the system offers the option of fitting one or more dispensing heads to the six placement heads in order to apply solder paste or electrically conductive adhesives. This enables two processes to be carried out time-efficiently using just one system. Camera systems also allow inspection of solder depots and assembled components. In combination with extensive sensor technology for process control, these systems enable the chair to further advance research into 3-D MID technology and data-driven techniques for this purpose.

Technical details:

  • Max. placement speed: 0,08 s/Chip
  • Placement accurracy: 0,04 mm
  • Max. size of circuit carrier: 50 mm x 30 mm to 540 mm x 510 mm
