15.05.2020: Excellent Paper Award of the ISSE 2020 for Nils Thielen

The paper “A Machine Learning Based Approach To Detect False Calls in SMT Manufacturing” by Nils Thielen, Dominik Werner, Konstantin Schmidt, Reinhardt Seidel, Dr.-Ing. Andreas Reinhardt and Prof. Dr. Jörg Franke was awarded with the “Excellent Paper Award for Young Scientists” by the committee of the International Spring Seminar on Electronics Technology (ISSE). ISSE 2020 was originally planned to take place in Demanovska Valley in Slovakia, but due to the corona pandemic it was held as a web conference for the first time.

The award-winning paper deals with the detection of false calls in automated optical inspection in SMT manufacturing using Machine Learning models. The model, which uses the design parameters of the electronic assembly and the results of the inspection itself as input values, makes it possible to reduce manual inspections for avoiding unnecessary scrap.
