For his dedicated teaching activities, which have already lasted for more than six years, and his close ties with the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical Faculty of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Dr. rer. nat. Ulrich Löwen was appointed Honorary Professor of Production Automation. Prof. Löwen is intensively involved in a wide range of joint research topics such as plant engineering, the design of application scenarios in the context of Industry 4.0 in the areas of design, engineering, production and service and supports extensive joint research cooperation throughout.

Prof. Löwen completed his studies in computer science at the University of Dortmund in May 1986 and subsequently received his doctorate at the Institute for Applied Computer Science and Formal Description Methods at the University of Karlsruhe and in the field of practical computer science at the University of Duisburg. After completing his doctorate, Dr. rer. nat. Löwen joined Siemens AG in October 1988 and held a variety of responsible specialist and management positions during the course of his career. Since 2010, Prof. Ulrich Löwen has been concentrating on systems engineering with a focus on comprehensively applicable engineering methods, processes and tools as well as their strategic and operational use at Siemens. Since 2012, he has also been involved in strategic topics of economic importance, such as the content of the German federal government’s “Industry 4.0” project.

He will give his inaugural lecture on the Day of Mechanical Engineering in 2020.
